Materials: Jigsaw task procedure

Brief description: A jigsaw activity is a cooperative learning technique where students work in groups to teach each other something, in this case, Islamic culture in medieval Spain. The groups are given an overall assignment, and each group becomes an 'expert' on a smaller part of the topic. Each group prepares a short presentation to share their knowledge with the rest of the class. Students use hand-made flashcards as visual support to help their classmates to understand their presentation.

Materials: document "Reformation in England" "Story map template".

Brief description: The aim of this activity is to reconstruct the main events of the English Reformation through a listening comprehension. Before doing the actual listening activity, in groups of three,students are asked to speculate about what happened with the help of  some  flashcards introducing the main characters and a story map diagram. To help students to articulate their speculations, they are aslo provided with some words of vocabulary previously scaffolded in class.
